Showcasing the best in Rough Guides’ travel photography from the last 25 years, Earthbound: A Rough Guide to the World in Pictures is the definitive photographic guide to the experience of travel in all its guises. From a chance encounter with a trinket-seller in Cuba to stumbling upon a local festival in Peru or the vivid saris of a family relaxing on Chowpatty Beach, the moments captured on camera really are worth their weight in words.
Packed with over 250 striking images, Earthbound also reveals the story behind the pictures through personal insights from the photographers alongside selected photos. Hear first-hand how they came to capture these exceptional moments in time.
Earthbound won’t just inspire you with unique world photography but uses QR Codes, an innovative new technology, to instantly transport readers to the geographical location of the image on Google Maps through their mobile phones. QR codes (a type of bar code) next to each photograph can be scanned onto a mobile phone, PDA, or laptop link straight through to the image location on Google Maps.
“One day we realized that of the literally hundreds of thousands of images we had, some were so
outstanding they deserved to be in a book of their own. All of them reminded us what an amazingly
rich and diverse place the world is, and, most importantly, why we started travelling in the first place.” Martin Dunford, Rough Guide co- founder and Publishing Director
The book boasts an inventive, thought-provoking design: photographs are organized by theme, not continent, making for a fresh take on travel photography.
Themed chapters: Activities, Belief, Cities, Food & Drink, Keepsakes, Nature, People, Performance, Structures, Time-Wasting, Tourist Trail, Tradition, Transport and Work.

Dev….How in the hell are you? I want to write for you and I am going to tell you that I had a great time in Denver at the AWP this year. I always and I mean alwys dig into what is going on in and around any area I visit and get the old stories and info about statues and have got some great stuff about The Big Blue Bear who stands 106 feet tall looking into the convention center and some real good gossipy local scoop…Everyone is getting a “medical marajuanna” slip from local doctors there and going into hahahahahbusiness. No wonder everyone in Denver is so absoutely pleasant..didn’t see anyone without a smile…hahahah not one……miss you Dev. Have to take another semester as I got some wrong info and can’t get my Critical Paper in at the same time that I do my Thesis so I will be hanging around like a rotten organge for another semester. erk….this is really getting to be a drag. Haven’t really learned a damned thing. Except the most important one….how to be independent within a system and teach myself everything I need to know to pick up a sheepskin….sounds like a stand up routine, doesn’t it????hummmmmthat’s an idea///////lovelucy
