“No other country has the infinite variety of Italy, from the tip of a Dolomite mountain to the southernmost wave on Pantelleria. When I travel to other countries I’m often secretly asking myself, ‘why am I here, when I could be in Italy’.”
– Foreword by Frances Mayes
With millions of US visitors every year, Italy never goes out of fashion, but how do you know where to begin, how to escape the crowds, and how to make the most of this stunning destination throughout the year?
Where to Go When: Italy is a beautiful new book from DK Eyewitness Travel, organized month by month. This seasonal planner brings you the best Italy has to offer. Discover sleepy villages, local festivals and undiscovered beaches as well as the famous cities and towns of this diverse country.
Italy is one of the most idyllic places in the world. Open this book to any page and you’ll be inspired to seek the best regional cuisine and the most dramatic landscapes at the best time of year.
Frances Mayes is the author of the best-selling memoir Under the Tuscan Sun, in which she tells her story of buying and restoring a house in Tuscany. It was later made into a blockbuster movie starring Diane Lane. Frances has just released a new memoir this summer, Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Life, that’s already garnering critical acclaim and flying off bookshelves.
Where to Go When: Italy

Hi Jim,
I think that is a great idea. Best of luck with that.
I love Italy and Eye Witness Guides. I’m sure this is a great one.
Hi Nancie,
I agree. DK has always made some great guides.
Oh yes, Italy, that would be marvellous. I absolutely need to see Venice again, whether I win or not. Thanks for posting this, Devin.
A no brainer to enter this – I hear the food in Italy is reasonably good….
We have been talking about a trip to Italy. Perhaps we could get a little help from DK! it would certainly help to offset the currency conversion woes.
Hi NVR Guys,
Our money seems to get more worthless with every passing day, although I think we rebounded a little lately.
I’m sure the food and the hiking would be amazing! I know what guide to pack!
Italy is on the short list after my trip to Australia in 2011. Funny how I’m planning the next trip even though I haven’t left for the first one yet!
Italy has been on top of my list for some time already… reasons: Food and Architecture! ahhh! Hopefully DK will make it happen sooner!
I’ve only been to Italy for a week but even as I left I knew I’d return, what a beautiful country.
Never been to Italy but I will check to see if I am valid as a contestant from outside the main world.
David
Hi David,
I definitely wish you good fortune on the trip, leaving from Malaysia!
I looove Italy – but who doesn’t? Considering I’ll be spending the next year studying Italian, planning another trip there would be a nice little reward.
Italy is so beautiful. It’s a dream vacation.
There’s so much more I need to see and do in Italy! And of course more food to eat.
I would love to go back to Italy! I’ve only spent one day in Rome, one day in Naples, and one day in Florence/Pisa as part of a cruise.
Your blogs good reading. I am going to share it with my friends on facebook.
Putting together a chicken coop is mostly a simple scenario with the good variety of plans and kitsets around. However you go about it, it is an excellent activity in all sorts of ways. Eggs fresh from the hens, and the 100 % satisfaction that happens as a result of getting an amount of being at one with nature and independence.
